Adsense, Boost Your Payout 400%, No Really

How?

Dead easy.

I implemented this tactic myself yesterday on one of my sites and my CTR has gone up 300% and it hasn’t been 24hrs yet. Needless to say I’ll be spending the rest of the morning making changes to my Adsense ads across my site network.

What is it?

Sorry can’t resist a little intrigue.

It’s very simple. Using the Leaderboard banner 728 x 90 I added small images/photos above each ad at 140 x 100.

These photos are broadly related to the ads and draw the eye of the visitor to the ad. Which the ad alone maybe would not do. Once their eye is drawn they read the ad text below the image and they are much more likely to click.

Google already knows of this tactic and I know a number of people have approached them via email before implementing the images. Obviously nobody wants their account suspended. The good news is Google are fine with it, for now at least. Although a few warnings have gone out with regard to animated images not being appropriate. So no flash or animated gifs!

You can view this in action on one of my sites - http://www.how-to-make-money-online.info/

You can’t fail to see it at the top of the page.

Now I hope this is new information to you. If so I know it’s going to be damn useful. :) And most of all profitable!

The benefit of this over Google’s own ‘image ads’ is, you choose the image for one and the basic text ad appeals for another. As I’m sure you’re aware text ads work better than image ads. This seems to work better than both separately by combining them together, the major boost comes from you being able to select the most relevant image to your site content.

Google Rules! No, This Isn’t Another Glowing Report of the Search Engine Giant

Visit any forum or web page dedicated to the discussion of SEO (search engine optimization) and you will find scads of webmasters and SEO specialists obsessed with improving their Google placement and/or page rank. Why is that? Because Google is the most popular search engine, it’s the one that everyone uses to find what they are looking for.

My question is why? Does the public know that Google has a “sandbox”? The existence of the sandbox has never been verified by Google, but it’s widely believed to exist.

The sandbox is like a penalty box for new web sites. Most say that a new web site will have to do it’s time in the sandbox for about 6 months before ever having a hope of ranking well in Google. In effect, when you search for “widgets” in Google, there is little chance that you are going to find a new widget company, or even a 50 year old widget company that has just produced a web site for the first time.

What I want to know is; is that fair? Is it what the masses want? Do the masses care how old a site is or how many people link to it? Not likely. As a consumer, if I’m looking for a widget I want a good quality inexpensive widget and I want one that I can order online maybe or one that is local to me so that I can go get it. I could give a rat’s behind how long the website has been up or how many other websites link to it… I just want my widget!

I recently created a web site for my company which offers web design and logo design services. There are a gazillion companies offering that ok, well Google says 170 million but close enough! My chances of getting a top 10, or even to the top 50 are minimal, I have to rely on some more obscure keywords and other advertising methods to get anywhere. I can also rely on Msn search because in a matter of a month I’m now in the top 10 to 30 on three of my keyword phrases.

So what’s the difference? Msn doesn’t have a penalty box? They don’t care how long the site existed? They don’t care how many back links you have? My personal theory is that what they do care about is fresh content and a new website has fresh content.

So… what does this all mean? Not much really other than to point out that Google is a snob and Msn isn’t? That if you are looking for the latest on a topic, perhaps msn should be your search engine of choice? To point out that the average consumer doesn’t really care that there are 170 million websites found for their search term, what they want is relevance in the top 10 – 30 (most won’t go further than 3 pages before they try changing their search term or select a site within the top 30)

This has been mostly a frustration rant and perhaps a challenge to Google. What gives Google the power to decide what we as consumers want to find when we search? Who are they to decide that a new site is less worthy than an older established site? Isn’t the content what is important to us when we search? Is there a better way for Google, and the others to provide better more relevant results?

Perhaps Google should consider offering an option to its faithful followers. An option to search without their penalty filter, an option to search on new content, an option to search on the age of the website – giving us the choice to decide what’s important to us – giving us credit for knowing what we want. It would rock the world of the SEO and force us webmasters and designers to go back to working on unique content and service for our customers instead of obsessing on keywords and backlinks. I think that would be good for everyone.

Before You Can Conquer The World You First Have To Secure Your Own Backyard

These are exciting times for small businesses. The rush is on to find the best way of using the web to propel your product to a larger audience and reach the global marketplace. But before you start dreaming of exotic holidays and fast cars you should first ensure you are already covering your own backyard. After all, The Beatles would never have cracked America if they had failed to sell any records back home.

Business models are changing fast. But you should never underestimate the importance of reaching your local consumers. The fact is that the majority of businesses conduct most of their trade within a 50 mile radius. Ensuring that people in your vicinity can find you as easily as possible is crucial.

The latest research from the US suggests that more and more people are searching for, and finding, local businesses and services online. Global exposure can still be your long-term goal and dream. But reaching local consumers should be your priority - and is a lot easier to achieve.

Research by Comscore networks showed that in the US 63% of interviewed net users conducted a local search in July 2006 compared to only 43% the previous year. These searches were for local restaurants, entertainment and businesses. The most promising stat is that this in turn led to 41% making contact online.

The Yellow Pages is now being left to gather dust in a cupboard, whilst the days of ringing costly directory enquiry lines might be coming to an end. The Internet is a resource for information and is increasingly the medium on which people will find your business.

Developing your web presence so that the search engines push you onto people??s screens has never been easier. And it doesn??t have to cost you an arm and a leg via a short term pay-per-click ad campaign. PPC is fine if you know your conversion percentage. But for smaller businesses, just looking to capture more targeted visitors in your local area, it??s probably not the most cost effective solution.

Posting to your blog once a week with relevant material will not only develop the sales process but will ?organically?? optimise your website for search. Depending on the competitiveness of your keywords, you could be hitting the top of Google and Yahoo for local search terms in less than two months.

The advantage we have in the UK is that business blogging is still in its infancy. This is largely due to lack of awareness and reluctance to invest time and money in a new marketing technique with no obvious, immediate ROI. This simply means that the early adopters will find it easier to push their website to the top of their local search terms - and capture the most targeted traffic as a result.

Research by Fasthosts (a web hosting company) revealed that although half of UK SME businesses think they should be blogging only 3% actually plan to start. When you consider the growing importance of local search ensuring your website is as easy to find a possible should be regarded as business critical.

Marketing is no longer simply a case of carpet bombing your area with leaflets and placing an ad in the local paper. Maximising the optimisation of your web presence for search is essential for reaching an increasingly web savvy population.

I started this year as a web copywriter and then swiftly jumped on the blogging bandwagon when I saw what direction the Internet was heading in. I write standard web copy, but now also promote the use of blogs to UK businesses for marketing products and services.

Strategic Keyword Placement Will Yield Optimum Results

Stuffing every keyword phrase into every nook and cranny on the home page is not a good idea. The phrases should be strategically placed (but not excessively) in the page elements that are most important to the search engine robots.

Page title tag

This is the most valuable place for keyword placement. The Title tag the wording that appears in the very top line of the browser. Very often the page title will show as the primary link on the search results. So it has two objectives. It should be sufficiently meaningful and compelling to encourage searchers to click on it and it should be keyword rich. Generally about 10 to 12 words are sufficient as different browsers display different numbers of characters. Also perceived wisdom has it that some spiders only read a certain number of characters in the title, so the most important words should be at the beginning.

Heading tags

Page headlines should contain keywords but not to the extent that they detract from or weaken the message on the page. Use the heading tags semantically and not as a means of giving more value to paragraphs or other content. Structure them hierarchically as intended.

Body

Use keyword phrases in body copy as appropriate without disrupting the flow of the text or making it appear unnatural. Write for people first and search engines second. Some additional weight may be given to keywords that appear in the first paragraph.

Links

Keywords in link anchor text give value to both the page that contains the link and the page that receives the link. There is an added accessibility bonus here in that links with meaningful text are more easily understood by people using screen readers. For example, a link with the words “Find out more about the benefits of search engine optimisation” will be more helpful to the listener than “Click here”.

Navigation

Pure (X)HTML navigation is essentially a list of links, so it makes sense to include keywords if possible. But it makes even more sense to ensure that the navigation is clear and obvious. So only use keywords where they are an aid to navigation. If the navigation is written in a less search engine friendly script such as Javascript or Flash, try and include a discrete (X)HTML version as well, perhaps at the bottom of the page. No only is this an opportunity for keyword placement, it will also help search engine robots and screen readers to find their way round your site.

Breadcrumbs

‘Breadcrumbs’ is the name given to a list of pages that shows the visitor how this page is reached from the Home page. Each page in the list links to the actual page. This sort of list is most useful in larger sites that have more than two levels; the primary purpose being to help visitors with orientation within your site. But it’s an added bonus when page names can include keywords.

Image alt tags

The main purpose of adding alternative text to images is so that screen readers can describe the image. For accessibility compliance this is mandatory. There might be small search engine benefit in using keywords in the alt text, but the words must genuinely describe the image (no keyword stuffing!).

Meta description and meta keywords

Words in the ‘meta description’ and ‘meta keywords’ tags have no search engine value. But the meta description may be displayed on some results pages below the primary link, so you should always supply a few brief descriptive sentences that will entice the visitor to click on the link. The meta keywords tag is now largely defunct due to misuse and abuse by spammers.

AdSense E-Book - 100’s of AdSense E-books to Choose From

One of the things that no one ever heard about before the internet is e-books. E-books are books that can be found on the internet. They are nooks that are designed to be directly downloaded from a website to a personal computer or some other type of electronic reading equipment. Before the internet the closet thing anyone had to an e-book was an audio book that was inserted into a tape deck or CD player. Today many websites offer consumers free e-books as a way to promote a product or as a reward for a subscription. There are e-books available for every subject under the sun, there are even e-books written about everything and anything you could ever need to know about Google’s AdSense program.

What is even better then having an e-book about Google’s AdSense program? Having a free e-book about Google’s AdSense program!

There have literally been hundreds of books written about AdSense, and many of them can be found free on-line. Now all you have to do is select the one that is right for you. Look for an e-book that has a synopsis that appears to answer your questions about AdSense. If you can’t find one that sounds like it was written with you in mind run a search on the authors. Most of the people who have written e-books about AdSense are qualified to do so because they have had AdSense accounts of their own. If the author’s site reminds you of your own website, you should probably download a copy of their book.

When looking at free e-books about Google’s AdSense program don’t just look at the e-books that are written from a positive point of view. Try reading one or two that have a negative outlook on the program. Read what mistakes these authors made and try to learn from them. This might prevent you from inadvertently doing something down the road that will have Google considering closing your AdSense account.

Don’t put it off. Download a couple of e-books about AdSense before opening your own AdSense account. By doing this you will know exactly what you want your website to look like when Google is ready to post their AdSense advertisements. This will save you the time and trouble of having to go back later and change the format and layout of the advertisements. Another read a AdSense e-book is the time period between submitting your AdSense application and the time when Google approves your website.

If you are a person who has a difficult time reading text, look for e-books about AdSense that include a text-to-speech feature. The text-to-speech will let you listen to the book instead of having to read it.

Secret Of A Successful PPC Campaign

You may have tried PPC marketing and decided it didn’t work. Yet it’s not too difficult to set up a successful PPC campaign.

So why do so many PPC campaigns fail? In most cases it??s because your costs exceed your profits. And why is this? Often it??s because you??re too anxious to get clicks!

There??s one golden rule you have to remember for PPC marketing. PPC stands for ??Pay Per Click?! So every time someone clicks on one of your ads, YOU PAY. And if that click doesn??t then result in a sale, you??ve lost that money.

So for a successful PPC campaign, remember you don??t want any old clicks. You want clicks that result in sales. In other words, you have to make sure that people only click when they are likely to buy.

And how do you do this? It??s all in the ad.

  • Target your ads precisely. Although you do want a good CTR (click-through rate) in order to get the highest possible position, you don??t want untargeted clicks. That is, you ONLY want clicks from people who are likely to buy. So make your ads as specific as possible so that people know precisely what it is you are selling.
  • For this reason, some people put the price of the product in the ad. This is in order to prevent people from clicking if they don??t want to pay that price. But remember that as a rule, the ad should focus on the benefits of the product.
  • Use your main search term for that adgroup in the headline of the ad. If you are using Google, Google will put it in bold type. So people will see exactly what they are looking for and be drawn to your ad.
  • Use a different ad for each small keyword group (called ??adgroup? in Google). This is crucial for a successful PPC campaign ?” yet so many people make the mistake of putting too many keywords in one adgroup. The fewer keywords in the adgroup, the more relevant and precisely targeted the ad is likely to be. You don??t pay for an ad unless someone clicks it, so you can have as many ads as you like in each campaign.

If you don??t manage a successful PPC campaign the first time, keep trying.Just focus on your ad and keep tweaking it till it works. Because when you do get there, the rewards are tremendous.
